Product Review–Paleo Wraps

paleo wrapPersonally I really don’t like wraps. I’ve always thought them gummy and unpleasant. I guess some people think them better than bread but they are flour too so they aren’t a better alternative really. Recently I saw a product at a health food store called Paleo Wraps. I had to admit I winced at the price…over $12 for 7 wraps to a package. From my experience with raw food, I had seen a recipe for wraps using young Thai coconut meat. It took a bit to find the coconuts (they are different from the typical round brown coconuts that we are familiar with). They generally have a whitish husk with a point on the top where you hack off the husk to get to the yummy coconut water and meat. Just a side note…it is said that coconut can heal the thyroid gland. I think this is because of the huge mineral content in them. They are incredibly hydrating so I see them as mother natures gift to people of the tropics where they are in danger of dehydration almost every day. So drink coconut water for hydration…not water. It’s the minerals that hydrate us. Check out this blog about how sad the state of our food supply is in relation to demineralization.

Making these wraps in my dehydrator never happened as it seemed to be a relatively time consuming project and let’s face it…there’s only so much time in a day. Also, I managed to gobble up all the coconuts I had brought home before I could get to the wrap making. So I was cautiously ecstatic when I found these ones in the store. I don’t know if they are practical for a family cost wise but they were worth a try.

They are organic, gluten/soy free and GMO free and they are made of nothing but coconut and coconut water. They taste mildly coconutty and were quite pleasant. They also keep at room temperature for up to 9 months. So I will use them. I’ll try them with my raw falafels with Tzatziki instead of a lettuce wrap for a change of pace. You can cook them too but for me I’d rather keep them raw. Check out more about their benefits at their website below.
